The Faith Christian Saints on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. Faith Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1191st, while Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy is ranked 397th).
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Faith Christian, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-47 loss to School of the Woods.
The losing side was boosted by Dylan Martinez, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. That was a full 48.9% of Faith Christian's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Avila, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy put another one in the bag back in December of 2023 to keep their perfect season alive. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 66-48 victory over True North. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 8 on the offensive boards, as Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy did.
Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Peter Kosyak led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kosyak scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Boyd, who scored 18 points along with four steals.
Faith Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Faith Christian came up short against Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 62-56. Can Faith Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
