Chelmsford and Central Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chelmsford is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Chelmsford and Lawrence, and Chelmsford kept the tradition alive. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lancers a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday.
Lawrence's batters probably weren't too happy with Jason Bilo, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up zero walks). Bilo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nate Duggan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Corbo, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic came up short against Lowell on Wednesday and fell 7-2. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Central Catholic saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Costa, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. Aiden Silva also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Chelmsford's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Chelmsford's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Lions have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Central Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chelmsford continue to outrun the ball?
Chelmsford skirted past Central Catholic 11-9 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
