Overton came tearing into Friday's matchup with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Union Grove Lions. Considering the Mustangs have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kelsey Vaught made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryleigh Nelson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kasha Williams, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Overton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Overton's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Union Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Overton will take on rival Beckville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 4, the Bearcats 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Union Grove is set to challenge their familiar foe Ore City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
