It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Boardman Spartans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Canfield 63-60. The win was nothing new for Boardman as they're now sitting on three straight.
Leading Boardman to victory were Sarah Bero and Mackenzie Riccitelli. Bero dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Riccitelli dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Riccitelli pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Samantha Duble, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Boardman has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Canfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Boardman will head out on the road to square off against Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Canfield, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Austintown-Fitch at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Austintown-Fitch is ranked 86th, while Canfield is ranked 83rd).
