The Oxford Prep Griffins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 55-32 defeat at the hands of Vance Charter. While losing is never fun, Oxford Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while Vance Charter is ranked 184th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vance Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alyssa Bullock, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Bullock is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Emily Reese was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Oxford Prep has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Vance Charter, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford Prep will challenge Eno River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vance Charter, they will head out on the road to square off against Henderson Collegiate at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Henderson Collegiate comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 13 points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
