Allison Baston made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Seffner Christian let Tenley Newman and Isabella Biase run wild. Newman went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Biase went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kyla Slauter was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Academy at the Lakes unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 17-7 to River Ridge.
Alexis (Lou) Gattuso was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nola Reilly, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Seffner Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Academy at the Lakes, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seffner Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Academy at the Lakes struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Seffner Christian suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Academy at the Lakes when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Crusaders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
