Baseball Game Preview: Elkhart Elks vs. Teague Lions

The Elkhart Elks will venture away from home to square off against the Teague Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Elkhart took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Buffalo by a score of 5-2.

Cole Horton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elkhart's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nicholas Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Ty Oberlender also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Teague ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over Fairfield. Ten seems to be a good number for the Lions as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Mario Cuevas made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Teague lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Teague and bumps their season record up to 14-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Elkhart, their record is now 11-13.

Elkhart skirted past Teague 1-0 in their previous meeting on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Elks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
