The Western Branch Bruins won the last time they faced the Hickory Hawks, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Western Branch breezed by the Hawks on the road to the tune of 73-44. Given Western Branch's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Hawks are ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ellis Wright was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Saleem Williams, who scored 13 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Western Branch and bumps their season record up to 11-7. As for Hickory, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Branch will take on the Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Grassfield is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Hickory, they will be playing at home against the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
