Central Cabarrus (Concord, N.C.) took an early lead against
West Rowan (Mt. Ulla, N.C.) and held on for a 28-16 victory on Saturday.
The Vikings put up 14 points in the opening quarter. Central Cabarrus scored on a touchdown pass by
Hasaan Klugh to
Anthony Mullis and a Klugh touchdown pass to
Riley McGee.
After taking the lead on a Klugh touchdown pass to Mullis in the first quarter, CC was up 21-7 at the half.
The Concord school saw its 14-point halftime lead fall to 12 entering the fourth.
The Vikings entered the contest giving up 28.0 points per game this year.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Central Cabarrus, which was coming off a 63-50 defeat at the hands of Concord in its previous game.
Central Cabarrus (6-1) goes up against South Rowan in a 3A Conference 7 game matchup next week, while West Rowan (4-3) locks horns with East Rowan also in a 3A Conference 7 game.
