The East Dubuque Warriors will head out to face off against the Morrison Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as East Dubuque comes in on seven and Morrison on five.
On Thursday, East Dubuque got the win against West Carroll by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Warriors have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Curin Oberman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Katie Welp was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tierney Miller, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Meanwhile, Morrison owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Milledgeville as they made off with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Morrison saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Duncan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Morrison's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for East Dubuque, their record now sits at 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. East Dubuque has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Morrison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 15.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
