Rome Free Academy is 0-6 against Chittenango since February of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Rome Free Academy Black Knights will head out on the road to take on the Chittenango Bears at 7:00 p.m. After both made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
On Monday, Rome Free Academy got the win against Westmoreland by a conclusive 3-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Black Knights.
One reason for the win was Rome Free Academy's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-9.
Rome Free Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Pomales, who had six digs and three aces. Sean Ginter was another key player, getting 14 digs and five aces.
Pomales wasn't the only good server: Rome Free Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Chittenango came tearing into Monday's game with six straight wins and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Magicians 3-0.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Chittenango was: they took every set by at least 18 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-7, 25-5.
Chittenango's win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Rome Free Academy, they have also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Rome Free Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Chittenango struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Rome Free Academy might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Chittenango when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Rome Free Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
