The Hiawatha Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of DePue. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
DePue's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vance Hayes, who scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hayes has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Lopez, who scored 22 points.
Hiawatha has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for DePue, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hiawatha will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alden-Hebron at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. As for DePue, they will head out on the road to take on Earlville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Earlville will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
