This season hasn't been kind to the Meridian Lions, who are still winless after their eighth game. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 50-36 to KIPP Austin Collegiate. Meridian lost against KIPP Austin Collegiate in their previous head to head back in November, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 53-35 score last time.
KIPP Austin Collegiate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kendal Martin out in front who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Genesis Robles, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meridian's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.7 points per game. As for KIPP Austin Collegiate, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Meridian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Providence Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. KIPP Austin Collegiate won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against IDEA Health Professions at 7:45 p.m. on December 15th.
