The Richmond Red Devils put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Madison with a 54-49 victory. Given Richmond's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Madison is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richmond's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braiden Hogg, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hogg has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cedric Horton, who scored 16 points.
Despite the loss, Madison still got an impressive performance from Quincy Reynolds, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. ?scar Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Richmond's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Madison, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richmond will take on New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Palestine has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 564 points over their last eight games. As for Madison, Madison and Rushville will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Rushville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
