4A Region II District 9 recap October 29, 2013
The Colony extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region II District 9 this week by beating Wakeland, 28-22. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Cougars.
Liberty lost to Heritage 48-24 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Wolverines' dynamic duo of Jackson Lamb and Justice Williams proved tough for The Colony to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lamb threw for 183 yards and 1 touchdown and Williams had 102 yards receiving. Bryce Kozney helped Wakeland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 23 yards.
Kelly Cordova was a passing and rushing force as Centennial bested Frisco. He completed 13 passes for 187 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 127 yards. Cordova's key target this week was Devin McCord, who caught 6 passes for 96 yards.
The Titans' Cordova and McCord have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cordova has thrown for 1,926 yards this season, while McCord has 43 catches for 628 yards. Bryan Hammond from Rudy Rangel's team leads the league in rushing with 1,549 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place The Colony takes on second place Centennial. The Cougars bested Wakeland last week, while Centennial topped the Raccoons.
Mark Howard's team's Cordova is within 74 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against The Colony.
The Titans' offense has scored 279 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Cougars have allowed only 99 on the year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Centennial's McCord goes up against The Colony's Paul Lewis.
