Lake Brantley has gone 8-2 against Apopka recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Patriots will face off against the Blue Darters at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lake Brantley comes in on nine and Apopka on 11.
Lake Brantley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Lake Mary as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Auriana Turner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Rylin Sprague, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lake Brantley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Apopka sidestepped Seminole for a 4-3 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Darters have posted against the Seminoles since April 8, 2016.
Skyla Durand was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Riley Ford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Lake Brantley's record is now 22-3. As for Apopka, their record now sits at 21-4.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lake Brantley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Apopka struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Brantley was able to grind out a solid win over Apopka in their previous meeting back in March, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
