After flying high against Saint John Paul the Great Catholic last Friday, Flint Hill came back down to earth. The Flint Hill Huskies fell 9-4 to National Cathedral on Tuesday. Flint Hill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as National Cathedral apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
Mackenzie Murdock put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. Murdock has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. Murdock was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Jane Stanley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Flint Hill didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 11 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as National Cathedral only tossed seven.
Like Flint Hill, National Cathedral also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Walker. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Walker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
In other batting news, Anya Prokop was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. Iyanna Edwards was another key contributor, going 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple, and a double.
Flint Hill's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for National Cathedral, they pushed their record up to 4-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
