The Twiggs Academy Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 73-51 walloping at the hands of Covenant Academy. That's two games in a row now that Twiggs Academy has lost by exactly 22 points.
Twiggs Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Nobles, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 45.1% of Twiggs Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Smith, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Twiggs Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Covenant Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ben Mcghee out in front who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Stevens, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Twiggs Academy's defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Covenant Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.
Twiggs Academy has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. Thomas Jefferson Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 12. Covenant Academy will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Central Fellowship Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully the like a good challenge.
