The Carondelet Cougars will head out to take on the Alameda Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carondelet is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Carondelet's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over San Ramon Valley. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
The result came thanks to Maia Scholtens's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Carondelet saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Clement, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Anna Gustafson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Alameda waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 21-0 victory. That looming 21-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.
Kaylee Huey looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Miley Gradney was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Wong, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Alameda hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.
Alameda's record now sits at 4-1. As for Carondelet, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Carondelet has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Alameda struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carondelet suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Alameda when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can Carondelet avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
