The Gilbert Tigers were the 69-59 winner over the Desert Vista Thunder when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Gilbert fell 72-61 to the Thunder on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (57), Gilbert still had to take the loss.
Desert Vista found their leader in underclassman Damian (DJ) Spencer, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Spencer has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Velez, who scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Desert Vista, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-5.
Gilbert will be playing at home against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 373 points over their last six matches. As for Desert Vista, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Queen Creek is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
