For the first time this season, Puckett will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the Pisgah Dragons at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Puckett picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with an 11-7 win over North Pike.
Lila Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Erin Fletcher, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Brooke Shivers was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Puckett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Pike only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Pisgah got the win against Ethel on Saturday by a conclusive 11-4. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brooke Cooper was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alex Holeman, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Pisgah pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Puckett, their win bumped their record up to 6-2-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Puckett hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've averaged .402. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Puckett might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from Pisgah in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Puckett have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
