The Yorktown Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They lost to George West on the road by a decisive 47-29 margin. Yorktown lost against George West in their previous head to head back in December of 2018, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 69-54 score last time.
George West found their leader in underclassman Christopher Bernal, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Blevins, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Yorktown bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.8 points per game. As for George West, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Yorktown won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Corpus Christi United at 10:30 a.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Corpus Christi United focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for George West, they will stay at home for another game and welcome John Paul II at 12:00 p.m. on December 16th.
