It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Athenian Owls ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past Lincoln 70-67. Given Athenian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while Lincoln is ranked 674th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Athenian had a senior duo take command as Evan Lucas scored 28 points and Surya Devasenapathy scored 20 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Devasenapathy has scored at least 25% of Athenian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Olivier, who scored 6 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Athenian and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Lincoln, they have fallen quite a ways from their 27-4 record last season and are now at 2-5.
Athenian's road trip will continue as they head out to face Swett at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. As for Lincoln, they will be playing at home against Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
