The Albemarle School Colts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 62-53 to Manteo. Albemarle School found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 13 fewer assists than your opponent.
Albemarle School lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madelyn Delosreyes, who scored 19 points. Delosreyes scored a full 35.8% of Albemarle School's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adison Pharr, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
It was another big night for Sydnee Ballance, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds for Manteo. That's the first time this season that Ballance scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jasiya Burton-Bailey, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Albemarle School has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Manteo, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Albemarle School will be playing in front of their home fans against Pungo Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hopefully Pungo Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Tuesday. Manteo won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Eastern Christian HomeSchool at 2:00 p.m. on December 29th. Averaging 59.4 so far this season, Eastern Christian HomeSchool's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Manteo better be ready for a challenge.
