High school football rankings: Carmel finishes No. 1 in final New York MaxPreps Top 25

Rams use stifling defense to win AA title while allowing 81 points all season.

The high school football season in New York came to a close over the weekend. Carmel was among the victors with a 42-12 win over Bennett/Olmsted/Middle Early College/East in the NYSPHSAA Class AA title game. That victory helped propel the Rams to the No. 1 ranking in the final New York MaxPreps Top 25.

Carmel allowed 81 points all season, winning all 13 games by at least 24 points. In the title game, Dylan Shields ran for 156 yards on nine carries and scored three times. He added five tackles.

Nick Rosaforte and Josh Massi each added touchdowns with 11 and eight tackles, respectively.

Iona Prep won the Catholic State Championship behind New York State Player of the Year Ajani Sheppard, who threw for 2,000 yards and ran for 1,000 as the Gaels went 11-1.
