Piscataway is 1-6 against Perth Amboy since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chiefs will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Piscataway is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 17-11 to Carteret. On the bright side, the 11- run performance marked the Chiefs' highest-scoring match to date.
Alisha Dhillon stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Julianna Mena was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Perth Amboy entered their tilt with Kennedy Memorial on Wednesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Mustangs. 12 seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Edith Luciano, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kiarelys Santiago, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Perth Amboy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Piscataway, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Piscataway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Perth Amboy struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Piscataway might still be hurting after the 14-5 loss they got from Perth Amboy in their previous matchup on Friday. Will the Chiefs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
