The Woodrow Wilson Bruins will venture away from home to face off against the Lakewood Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Woodrow Wilson is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Woodrow Wilson had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 37-point drubbing they dealt Jordan on Friday. The Bruins blew past the Panthers, posting a 49-12 win. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 23 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodrow Wilson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jemel Grigsby, who rushed for 44 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also picked up 72 receiving yards and one score. Another receiver making a difference was Thomas Jones, who picked up 131 receiving yards and two TDs.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kyle Harris, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Lakewood hadn't beaten Millikan on the road since September 23, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them last Friday. The Lancers skirted past the Rams 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted since August 23, 2024.
Woodrow Wilson better keep an eye on Jordan Montgomery. He was instrumental in Lakewood's win, rushing for 168 yards while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Those 168 rushing yards gave Montgomery a new career-high.
Woodrow Wilson's record now sits at 8-1. As for Lakewood, their record is now 6-3.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Woodrow Wilson has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lakewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Woodrow Wilson took a serious blow against Lakewood in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 44-7. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Lancers' Kade Casillas, who threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 50 yards. Now that the Bruins know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
