Northwest (Justin, Texas) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 59-7 win over Richland (North Richland Hills, Texas).
The Texans scored 10 points in the first quarter. Northwest scored on a touchdown run by
Dakota Chavis and a field goal by
Cayden Ihrig.
After taking the lead on a Chavis touchdown run in the first quarter, NHS led 38-0 at the half.
The Justin school expanded its lead to 45 points entering the fourth quarter. The Texans scored two times in the third, including once on a Chavis touchdown run.
Brandon Maine played well for the Rebels. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Chavis was the top performer for Northwest. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Richland's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard pass from Maine to Canyon Brock in the third quarter.
NHS went into the matchup giving up only 17.4 points per game. The seven points that RHS ended with were well below its average of 15.9 coming into the game.
Richland (2-7) will play a 5A Region I District 4 game against Keller next week, while Northwest (7-2) will take on Keller Central also in a 5A Region I District 4 game.
