Coastal recap October 8, 2013
La Jolla Country Day took down Tri-City Christian 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Braxton Burmeister threw for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 92 yards in the win.
Horizon Christian Academy led Coastal in scoring this week after putting up 53 points on Escondido Charter. Jamal Lewis ran for 261 yards during the win.
The Torreys' dynamic duo of Burmeister and Darien Brown proved to be unstoppable against the Eagles, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Christian Hayes helped La Jolla Country Day's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 25 yards.
Lewis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Panthers topped the White Tigers. Lewis' key target this week was Anthony Oseguera, who caught 4 passes for 64 yards.
Lewis was a force in the backfield as Horizon Christian Academy beat Escondido Charter.
He was 8-14 with 0 interceptions.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Lamont Butler's team's Josh Gaudet and Oseguera have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Gaudet has thrown for 821 yards this season, while Oseguera has 22 catches for 336 yards. Parker's Jesse Brookins leads the league in rushing yards with 660.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Panthers' Oseguera goes up against Santa Fe Christian's Drew Shields.
Next week's game between Horizon Christian Academy and the Eagles will feature a good passing match up as Gaudet will test his arm against Shields' defensive ability.
As it stands, the Lancers are in first, while La Jolla Country Day is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Parker takes on Jeff Hutzler's team. John Morrison's team has allowed 55 points this season, while the Torreys have given up 74.
The Panthers made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,634 from 9,883. The advance stemmed from a 53-22 victory over Mark Carlson's team last week.
