The biggest upset of the week belonged to East Mecklenburg, who took down 60th ranked Ardrey Kell, 23-9.
Ross Jeffries and Josh Howie provided fans with a highlight when they connected against South Mecklenburg. The connection went for 85 yards, the longest such play in 4A Southwestern this season.
Independence's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jason Connella has thrown for 1436 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while Dequan Barnes has 38 catches for 725 yards. Isiah Robinson leads the league in rushing with 1041 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Independence takes on Myers Park. The Patriots are in second place, while the Mustangs are in fourth place.
There should be lots of points scored when Independence and Myers Park face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Bill Geiler's team comes in having scored 309 this season, while Greg Taylor's team has scored 228. The Patriots scored 34 points last week as they beat Rocky River.
The Eagles moved up to 225 from 267 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Southwestern. East Mecklenburg climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Knights 23-9.
