Dan River is 0-10 against Appomattox County since June of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Dan River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Dan River couldn't beat Altavista on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. The Wildcats wound up with the same score they had in their last game (7-5), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Lucy Isom was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kenley Cundiff was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Bayleigh Merricks, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Appomattox County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Rustburg 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since April 9th.
Paisley Mann spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Appomattox County's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Karly Jenkins, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Appomattox County and bumps their season record up to 12-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Dan River, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Both Dan River and Appomattox County just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Appomattox County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dan River suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to Appomattox County in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
