There's no place like home for the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They managed a 39-33 win over Buena on Thursday. That's another feather in the cap for Ironwood Ridge, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Molly Walter continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaidyn Saucedo, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Despite the loss, Buena saw an underclassman step up: Kalel Palacios scored eight points along with three steals and two blocks.
Buena struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Ironwood Ridge racked up nine assists.
Ironwood Ridge pushed their record up to 10-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Buena, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ironwood Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sunnyside at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Sunnyside is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Buena, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Nogales at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Nogales focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday.
