The Southside Sharks will head out on the road to face off against the Sam Houston Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southside is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
After only 12 points in their last match, Southside made sure to put some points up on the board against Lafayette on Thursday. Southside took down Lafayette 56-38. Given Southside's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Lafayette is ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Sam Houston pushed their score all the way to 31 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to E.D. White on the road by a decisive 45-31 margin. Sam Houston has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Drew Bailey, who rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown. Bailey is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Gavin Stout was another key contributor, throwing for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
Southside is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Sam Houston, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season.
Everything went Southside's way against Sam Houston when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as Southside made off with a 42-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southside since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
