The Tarpon Springs Spongers were the 60-50 winner over the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Tarpon Springs fell to Clearwater Central Catholic 55-51.
Several Spongers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Geramyah Porter, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Porter scored a full 31.4% of Tarpon Springs' points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Segobin, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Tarpon Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tarpon Springs will challenge Anclote at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Pasco at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pasco focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
