For the first time this season, Morenci will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Willcox Cowboys at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Willcox will be up against a hot Morenci squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Morenci's pitcher stepped up to hand Pima a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Cameryn Woodall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Kieralyn Madrigal was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Jaliyah Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Morenci hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Willcox not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th. They were the clear victor by a 15-7 margin over Bisbee.
Alyssa Gonzalez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Gonzalez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Willcox got a massive performance out of Abi Tingle, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Karlie St Clair was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
Morenci's record is now 5-1. As for Willcox, their record is now 4-5.
Willcox's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Morenci has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Willcox, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Morenci's sizable advantage in that area, Willcox will need to find a way to close that gap.
Morenci beat Willcox 14-9 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morenci since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
