The Red Springs Red Devils's seven-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Tuesday. They walked away with a 42-30 victory over Douglas Byrd. That 42-30 margin sets a new team best for Red Springs this season.
Red Springs got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leeangelo Cobb out in front who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for Cobb. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Locklear, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Leilani Grice and Jazmine Burns certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Grice scored seven points along with six rebounds, while Burns scored two points along with three steals. Burns hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sheryraye Johnson, who scored eight points.
Red Springs' victory bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Douglas Byrd, their loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Red Springs won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. Hopefully Cape Fear focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Friday. As for Douglas Byrd, they will head out on the road to face off against Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jack Britt presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Douglas Byrd in North Carolina (Jack Britt is ranked 149th, while Douglas Byrd is ranked 497th).
