The Sierra Grande Panthers struggled with assists on Saturday (the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sierra Grande was outmatched by Evangel Christian Academy at home and fell 55-26. Sierra Grande was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-14.
Jaylyn Quezada and Alexandra Garcia certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Quezada scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Garcia scored four points along with ten rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Evangel Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellie Wagner, who scored 13 points. Wagner also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Sara Caldwel, who scored 13 points.
Sierra Grande's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Evangel Christian Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sierra Grande will stay at home for another game and welcome Lake City at 4:00 p.m. on January 12th. Evangel Christian Academy will take on Colorado Springs School at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Colorado Springs School will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Evangel Christian Academy is ranked 84th).
