Basketball Game Preview: Greenville Red Raiders vs. Greenwood Eagles

Greenville has gone 9-1 against Greenwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Greenville Red Raiders will square off against the Greenwood Eagles at 6:00 p.m.

Back in December of 2024, Greenville came up short against Seneca and fell 53-43. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Greenville got top-tier performance from Ava Owens, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Owens is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taliyah Johnson, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Greenville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Greenwood came into Friday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 66-39 blowout they got against Easley. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Greenwood's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Greenville, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Things could have been worse for Greenville, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 47-31 loss to Greenwood when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Greenville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
