The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Laurence Manning Academy. The game was a 27-27 toss-up at halftime, but Calhoun Academy couldn't quite close it out.
Chase Strickland and Connor Hayes certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Strickland dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Hayes scored 13 points along with two steals. Strickland is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played.
Josiah Burson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds for Laurence Manning Academy. Another player making a difference was Thomas Sumpter, who scored six points.
Calhoun Academy's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Laurence Manning Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun Academy will challenge the Saints at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Laurence Manning Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against the Skyhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hammond has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
