The Warsaw Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Wawasee Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Warsaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Warsaw fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Mishawaka on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavemen by a score of 10-9. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Cavemen recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Ellyse Walters was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Lilly Carman was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
Wawasee came out on top against Concord on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Minutemen. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Minutemen recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Elise Berkeypile, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbagail Willey, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wawasee hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Warsaw's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Wawasee, their record is now 6-11.
Wawasee's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Warsaw hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Wawasee, though, as they've only averaged .220. Will they be able to contain Warsaw's hitters?
Warsaw might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Wawasee when the teams last played back in April. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
