After flying high against the Family Christian Warriors last Thursday, Memorial Lutheran came back down to earth. Memorial Lutheran was the victim of a tough 66-45 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on Tuesday. The contest was a 24-24 toss-up at halftime, but Memorial Lutheran couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the loss, Memorial Lutheran still got an impressive performance from David Porter, who scored 15 points. Porter hasn't dropped below 15 points for ten straight games. Alex Zamora was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Brazosport Christian had a senior duo take command as Ethan Nelson scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals and Elijah Burris scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Nelson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carson Catoe, who scored eight points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Memorial Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Brazosport Christian, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-3.
Memorial Lutheran will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Second Baptist University-Model will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. Brazosport Christian is on the road again on Thursday and plays the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. The timing isn't great for Family Christian: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Eagles have snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
