South El Monte has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Mountain View Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
South El Monte fell victim to Arroyo's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were the victim of a rough 21-0 loss at the hands of the Knights. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, South El Monte couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Mountain View lost to El Monte on the road by a decisive 34-20 margin last Thursday. Mountain View was down 27-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Mountain View's loss came about despite a quality game from Everardo Nunez, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
South El Monte's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Mountain View, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season.
Everything came up roses for South El Monte against Mountain View when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 55-22 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mountain View's Xavier Spann, who rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for South El Monte to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
