It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Cambridge Springs Devils had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lakeview and snuck past 32-29. The win was familiar territory for Cambridge Springs who now have six in a row.
Cambridge Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Hoover, who picked up 41 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Preston Gorton was another key contributor, rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Cambridge Springs' win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Iroquois and 3-7 Saegertown (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.1% over those games). As for Lakeview, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Cambridge Springs will look to defend their home field on Friday against Redbank Valley at 7:00 p.m. Redbank Valley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cambridge Springs in Pennsylvania (Redbank Valley is ranked 107th, while Cambridge Springs is ranked 330th). Lakeview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
