If the La Plata Warriors were riding high off their 82-53 takedown of McLean last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. La Plata took a hard 61-43 fall against Suitland on Wednesday.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dwayne Liggins, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Austin Ashley was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
It was another big night for Devonte Mobley, who scored 30 points for Suitland. The matchup was Mobley's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meshach Pannell, who scored nine points.
La Plata's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Suitland, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Plata will take on Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Great Mills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday. As for Suitland, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Friendly at 2:45 p.m. Friendly is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
