Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morningside Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than AJ Chang, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. Chang is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games he's played. Meanwhile, St. Edward's ended up a good deal behind John Carroll Catholic on Friday and lost 61-42.
Morningside Academy will have to contain Cody Simmonds as he made an impact in St. Edward's last game. He dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. That's the most points Simmonds has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayzere Cannon, who posted eight points and five rebounds.
St. Edward's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Morningside Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Morningside Academy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Edward's struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Morningside Academy came up short against St. Edward's in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 54-47. Can Morningside Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
