AA Region VI recap Oct. 9, 2012
Woodland extended the longest winning streak in AA Region VI this week by beating Battery Creek, 47-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Academic Magnet and Garrett Academy Tech played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Academic Magnet eventually emerging with a 21-20 victory.
Burke's dynamic duo of Craig Williams and Raekwon Jones proved tough for Bishop England to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Williams threw for 193 yards and one touchdown and Jones had 82 yards receiving. Smith Devon helped Burke's passing attack out by catching four balls for 74 yards.
Deo'vonte Doe was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 226 yards as Ridgeland/Hardeeville fell to the Battling Bishops. Marquis Griffin also contributed to the rushing game with 110 yards on the ground.
Burke's Stephon Taylor and Devon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AA Region VI in both passing and receiving yards. Taylor has thrown for 491 yards this season, while Devon has 16 catches for 310 yards. The Jaguars' Doe leads the league in rushing yards with 1039.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Ridgeland/Hardeeville takes on Woodland. As it stands, Blake Raley's team is in third, while Reed Charpia's team is in first.
