Start is a perfect 10-0 against Rogers since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Rams at 5:00 p.m. Start is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Start came up short against Bowsher and fell 5-2. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bryce Creecy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Emari Green, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rogers, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Woodward 8-6. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Polar Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Da'Marion Allen-Gabriel made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Rogers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Hendrick, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Krall, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.
Start's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-6. As for Rogers, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Start has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rogers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Start took their win against Rogers in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 20-1 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
