Two dominant signal callers in Jaime Lopez and Robert Pineda are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears will face off against the Los Fresnos Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 304 points over their last seven games.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Edinburg with a sharp 37-13 win. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo pushed the score to 31-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Edinburg cut but never quite recovered from.
Jorge Alanis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 170 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Alanis has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lopez, who threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Los Fresnos' game on Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 21-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of Harlingen. Los Fresnos has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Los Fresnos got a solid performance out of Gael Palestina, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Palestina really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo pushed their record up to 7-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.8 points per game. As for Los Fresnos, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo and Los Fresnos were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in September, but Pharr-San Juan-Alamo came up empty-handed after a 23-22 defeat. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Los Fresnos' Pineda, who rushed for 86 yards, and also threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
