Softball Recap: Mineral County Has No Trouble Against Eureka

Mineral County had won three straight on the road, but on Saturday they bumped their record up to 12-6 to make it four. They put the hurt on the Eureka Vandals with a sharp 27-11 victory. The Serpents might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

Jazmin Serrato was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Raeane Johnson was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Mineral County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .736. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .567 that Eureka posted.

As for Eureka, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7. Even if they couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

On Eureka's side, Emma Auch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with nine stolen bases and two runs. Auch is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Tognotti, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Looking ahead, Mineral County will face off against Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Serpents are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Eureka, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 24-5 defeat against Wells on the 30th.
