Basketball Recap: Sydney King's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Triton over Pioneer

Triton came up into this matchup off a tough 35-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Pioneer Panthers by a score of 41-38 on Saturday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sydney King, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 15 points. That's the most points King has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Viers, who posted five points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks.

Even though they lost, Triton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Triton's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Pioneer, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-7.

Triton will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Caston at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Caston has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Pioneer, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 57-35 win against Taylor on the 30th.
